VIX

If I could raid someones closet, Vix is the woman for me. I have been following her for a long time now and not only is she super rad and very sweet, but her style OFF THE HOOK. I thought she was too good to not take note of, so I am dedicating a post to her. A sidebar link just isn't enough. If you have a good few HOURS free where you'd otherwise be bored (bored? what's that?), then you can visit her here at Vintage Vixen. You might want to get a bib or a towel to catch your drool so it doesn't ruin your keyboard.

TOXIC SHOCK

tie dye skirt c/o american deadstock, f21 bustier and jacket, my salvation arrow necklace, uo boots

When I opened the package from American Deadstock, I was so stoked on this skirt I could hardly contain myself. Not only is it stretchy...so I can eat like I normally do and the seam won't bust or hurt my food baby, but the print is fantastic. I love the toxic galactic pattern of colors that form what looks like neon nebula vapors on the black fabric. So good. I think this is my favorite tie dye I've seen in awhile. Annnnnd...the clothing from this store is rather inexpensive. This skirt, for example, is a measly 16 bucks.

My birthday is next weekend. 27. Cool. Psyche. Whatever, we all age, but when there are digital memories slapped all over the internet of you from age youngblah to now, it's hard not to get sad and nostalgic and wish you had your old self back. And man, word of advice - don't ever look through your old Myspace photos, because if you were like me you probably ONLY showcased your most fun amazing times where you looked the best. Time to practice embracing age! What am I saying, I'm YOUNG. Jeesh. Get over yourself, Casey.

FRAYED N' HACKED

top c/o youreyeslie, bones and things necklace, stray cat booth coin belt, thrifted most everything else

I guess I've got a thing for amateur-looking shredded clothing. Something very raw and defiant about it all. If I could rip all of my clothing up, even just a tiny little bit, I would. Unfortunately, I have to keep some level of professionalism to my wardrobe. That level is what I normally wear minus the rips and bras showing (too much). I am very fortunate to work in an environment that allows me to be myself and dress how I want. Where else would I wear all of these clothes I have? I can't imagine having a career in which I would be required to wear a uniform or abide by a strict dress code. Yuck! What is the point of buying clothes - for after work when you are at home vegging out on the couch? Maybe just weekends? I don't know, but it sounds horrible to me. If you like clothing as much as I do, I hope that someday in the future you land a career where you can dress as you please. And if you're doing that now, word.

Besides the cropped top, there are virtually only two other things that don't have a deliberate rip in them. The dangly gypsy belt that I got from Stray Cat Booth, a rad vintage shop with a plethora of 70s and 80s boho/southwestern clothing - love love love. SO many things from this store that I want to wear. And this sweet bison tooth necklace from Bones And Things. If I could have every piece in her collection, you bet I would take them. Her bone and crystal necklaces are too good.

How about these insanely long roots I have going on? Yeah, my natural light strawberry blonde is making its debut. I'm attempting to grow my hair color out...which isn't too far off from what my hair is colored now. So far I feel incredibly boring and lame. It's been years since my hair wasn't a fire engine red/hot pink/coral orange color. Cheers for boring au natural.

Per usual, I leave you with a song I am currently digging.

BABES IN NEBRASKA PT. 6

Meet my cat-loving, tattoo-obsessed friend Michelle. Also, my coworker. You may remember seeing her in this post. I would say of all my friends, her and I have pretty similar taste in clothing, minus her no-love for velvet. Her bellbottoms are rad, aren't they? You can find those bad boys online here, at Spanish Moss. Anyway, I'm about to go see this girl right now. In fact, I am running late because of this post. I will say "hi" to her for you. Or you can just say "hi" as I am sure she will be reading this soon.

SWEATERS 'N VELVET

thrifted sweater, thrifted snake blouse, uo boots, f21 leggings

So here's the deal. The not so awesome deal. Tomorrow it will snow. SNOW. Today it was 70 degrees. So here I am, bundled up and ready to go. I was actually kind of shocked to find this over-sized cardigan so easily, as I was hoping for something just like it when I decided to venture out thrifting. Rarely do I find what I went for, but in this case luck was on my side. Two dollars worth of warm baggy glory.
I realize I talk about the weather frequently on this blog. It's been stated that weather out here is generally viewed as a problem most days of the year. Unlike certain parts of the country, Nebraska has the most bi-polar mood swing weather ever. A "beautiful" day where the sun is out but it is not swim-in-air humid and there is no wind is incredibly rare. You never really know when to put away your summer clothes though, because after a -10 degree ice storm one day, we could have a 60 degree sunshine filled day the next. With this said, I will probably be blogging slightly less than I am now, as the weather will probably not permit. Unless I want to continue doing indoor shots, I will be too cold and not wearing anything worth shooting, because let's face it - arctic wind and snow clothing is not cute. Blegh. But! I will be taking a very necessary and exciting long vacation during the brunt of Winter, so look forward to that. I am.

A lot of you have mentioned liking velvet. If you love wearing velvet half as much as I do, you should definitely check out Larissas store Miracle Eye where this girl sells lots of it, and for really good prices. On top of the velvet, these shorts are da bommmmb. If you don't live in Frigid, USA...you can rock them all year. And if you do reside in Frigid, this jacket is also super rad. Yay for teenage girls with independent businesses! Read her 'About' section in the store, if you get a chance.

Last but not least, here is the only Halloween photo I have that is not just some drunken blurry shot of my face. As I've said before, Chrissa gets told all the time that she looks like Lady Gaga, so she decided to go with this for her costume. I did her face makeup all with black eyeliner and a lipstick brush to blend for shadows. I went as a no-name goth chick.

HOW MANY MORE POSTS CAN I WEAR LEOPARD IN

thrifted leopard top and skirt, jeffrey campbell ankle boots, vintage belt, underthepyramids triangle necklace

Happy Halloween! What a fun crazy weekend I had...all while wearing dark lipstick in which I am obsessing over. I am trying my hardest to embrace how unsightly pale I have become after having a scare with potential precancerous skin cells and now avoiding getting a tan. Dark lips have helped me view my transparent skin in a different light. Pale vamp fun light. Thankfully I am a redhead, so being pale is "normal" for our mutant kind. I still view myself as a desert-loving beach baby, so "normal" skin isn't my ideal but whatcha gonna do.

Can we please talk about how I have worn leopard print in virtually every post this last month? What is wrong with me? Bets on my next post? Leopard? Probably.

I was told my "like on bloglovin" button doesn't work. So, okay. Don't know how to fix that.

Song for you.

BABES IN NEBRASKA PT. 5

This is my friend Sarah, aka Lady Gaga. That last photo with the kids? Yeah, they wanted their picture taken with her because they were convinced Gaga was at the pumpkin patch. After this group shot, they individually took photos with her as well. Guess Lady Gaga is a redhead now, eh? Nice. On top of making my hair look brown, Sarah is a writer, stylist, vintage collector, lipstick junkie, aaaaaand a blogger! Yes, an actual real-life fashion blogger friend! In the midwest, you don't find many of us. Here are some photos from her blog, which you should probably go check out because this girl is bangin'.
