☼ PERFECT SHORTS F☯REVER ☼

In my perfect world, desert canyon-land would be only a few minutes away from everywhere, and shorts would be mandatory. Summer forever.

Here are some of my recent favorite shorts from my flawless etsy dream list. I've shared it before and I can boast because this list is literally perfect in every way and the focus isn't on myself. So, psh.

I wasn't much prepared to snap outfit pics but I believe this blouse deserves some attention. I'm trying hard to imagine who originally wore it, but all that comes to mind is a half-formed picture of a woman wearing giant round glasses sporting a black precision bob haircut. Much like Edna Mode, but with a slightly more outrageous and fun personality. 

So, I am moving to the SF bay for a month before I start career-ing here. I guess I will continue to live out of my car and various space bags. Every time I open my trunk I am reminded that, "Oh yeah! I have more clothes! I forgot I even owned t-shirts and skirts!" I have such a limited amount NOT in my car that I fail to remember I have more than just these boots to wear. Out of sight, out of mind, I guess. It's like Christmas every time I bust out a new space bag.

Sticky is asleep to the right of me, softly growling and sideways sleep-running. Her nose is twitching like crazy and her eyes are considerably wide open. Just FYI. I think she's aware of my blog posting which relaxes her knowing that I won't be annoying her with kisses every 5 seconds.

I was telling Isabel and Rachel that this top reminded me of my dad. He has (had?) a similar t-shirt in army green color with mushrooms and, BONUS! - an alien; the alien sat atop a 'shroom. I recall him wearing said shirt with baggy jeans and bare feet as he unhappily had to come pick me up when I was a minor in trouble with the police. We are twins, now, dad! Speaking of dad, look at how hot my parents were:

Who knew Stevie Nicks and John Travolta would muster up a zingy redhead that rocks magic mushrooms at age 27?

Ps. Rachel and Isabel are rad and fun and beautiful humans, in case you were wondering. Obviously.

I have been surprised with some really amazing things in the mail from some really amazing sponsors since arriving in Orange County. The beaded top and shell belt are from Tati Vintage, who currently have these glorious babies in stock:

Like, what? Are those real? And why am I not a size 5 and a half? Stupid idiot feet, being all evil stepsister-ish. 

The vest is handmade by Claire Verity in NYC. I've worn it to death, and am FINALLY debuting it on my blog. This thing has been basically attached to me since it's been hot out. Gotta cover up my booty in these hot pants somehow, right? Or not. Seeing as how about 50% of the population in the beach cities are basically naked all the time, I feel right at home in bootylicious shorts. Ignore the fact that I just used that horrid adjective. (but it's true...)

To top it off, my oldest and also newest sponsor, Lucky Vintage, was kind enough to send over a sweet package which included this backpack. Little did they know that I have a wallet-thing in the exact same pattern. Matchy matchy. Lucky freaking rules. You know this is true as she is in 1352 CIRCLES ON ETSY. That means 1352 people love this store. Plus me. And now you.

I would have spread all of this out in more than just one post, but I haven't been able to blog as much lately due to obvious reasons. And this outfit just made sense, okay? I am in the process of moving to the SF bay for a month before I move back down to Los Angeles and I can't really keep track of everything that's going on, except that it is good. Good good good.

I've been busy doing nothing but lounging on the beach, nostalgia-ing, eating, dogging*, and traveling before I restart life. 

Thrift stores are stupid expensive, here, by the way.

What is up with all the beaches not allowing dogs? I've had to sneak The Stick in my purse too many times, now. She's my little E.T. Ten extra pounds on one shoulder gets heavy rather quickly - especially on a sunburned one; yowza.

Anyway, I now reside here in Southern California. I am living out of space bags and boxes, which BLOWS. I can't wait to finally get our place in LA so I can unpack and breathe.

The trip out here was glorious, as my road trips usually are: full of fun and exploring and breaking the law over and over.

Things have been hectic to the max, as I pretend to prepare to move across country in less than 3 weeks. I find myself putting everything off until tomorrow, while only accomplishing the most medicore of tasks before spending the rest of my time out with friends and family. Oh, I need to put all my furniture on craigslist today? Instead I'll go sit on a patio and dine, and probably nap afterwards. Tomorrow I need to get boxes and pack? I think I'll just go to Jazz in June and stuff my face more while drinking. Five thousand e-mails and voicemails to respond to, and I can't even bare to listen or read right now. No thanks, I've got to sit and play with my dog. I'm a last minute sort, I guess. Things will never change.

I took these photos earlier this week before it was 10983 degrees out. Dis dress! It was too long, so I cut it and knotted up one side. I feel very Fred Flinstone meets Peg Bundy in it. Luckily I cut it too short, so I forever have to wear biker shorts underneath. *Yay*.

I'm cleaning out my life and making room for my move across country. After donating 6 bags of clothing, giving away some to friends, and selling a number to local buy/sell/trade stores, there are a few vintage pieces that are hard to part with, so I made an etsy shop featuring a portion of them. Upcycled and handmade by a mother and daughter, the shorts created by One Half Wolf are right up my alley. Get a load of these:

I have a blanket with the same pattern as the second pair. I'd like to wear this blanket. They read my mind and transformed a similar blanket into shorts. SHORTS. My obsession. Blanket shorts forever! 

Normally I wouldn't clash colors and patterns like this but,...WHO AM I KIDDING, of course I would do that. This is only half mismatched, though, as my hair does the rest of the work to have this outfit "make sense" in any way. 

Sometimes I wonder about my reasoning and place in the world of personal style blogging, and I start to feel like maybe I'm just some sort of vanity-obsessed female who spends too much money on clothing. But then I look through my posts at my unbrushed hair and unprofessional photos, wearing mostly secondhand clothing, and I remember that my purpose has nothing to do with being ostentatious. After reading Eckhart Tolle's "The Power Of Now", and spending the last month trying to rid my mind of any sort of ego, positive or negative, I contemplated stopping this blog. I probably would stop if I didn't feel like I could help anyone by having this ol' thing. Over the past year, I've been able to spotlight small businesses through etsy, and I think that's a wonderful thing to be able to do. On top of that, I hope to inspire women to dress how they feel inside, regardless of their age. Often people tell me they can't believe the fact that I am 27 years old. "You don't dress like it!", they will state. Is there some sort of cut off age when you have to begin dressing different than you feel? People are too quick to say that they "could never pull that off at their age", and that's a bummer. I'm here to help stomp that social norm deep into the ground, particularly midwestern people who feel like they are supposed to be 'boring'. I've got a soft spot for my midwesties. It's a lot tougher to not settle into a cookie cutter traditional world out here, but my hope is that more and more people can overcome that pressure and live their lives the way they would prefer. Lastly, I'd like to help Brit with her animal blogging community idea. I love that she wants to use her blog as a platform to teach and motivate bloggers to become active in animal rights and rescuing. Hopefully that will come into action and the entire blogging community can take part if they are passionate!
