thrifted top, thritted shorts, purse from the black market, erin wasson triangle necklace, belt from buffalo exchange, spike friendship ring c/o my little fish eye, dog from the streets of orange county
The majority of what I have been wearing lately has been thrifted or upcycled and this has consequently got me interested in a small goal. If you ever listen to lectures on TED.com, you may have heard this speech about not stating goals publicly, but instead talking about your goal after you have accomplished it. The instant gratification we get after getting praised about our upcoming goal frequently shatters the road to the goal itself, because the accomplishment has already been rewarded before we even start. I understand that this is true, and for whatever reason goal stating is a HUGE pet peeve of mine (which I have talked about before, I know, I know.) I don't feel overly ambitious about stating my small, accomplishable goal for the next month because I am currently in the middle of it. For February and March I am only purchasing thrifted clothing (this excludes shoes and jewelry). When I triumphantly reach the end of March, I may tack another month on to it. I am somewhat of a clothing hoarder and buyer doing loads of online shopping, so this is a rather large game plan in my world. As of now, this month has been a success. The reason for this thrifting notion is to achieve a much larger goal. My lips are sealed, though, until said secret larger aim is accomplished. But really, thrifting is great anyway. I've noticed that some Goodwill locations have (finally!) arranged their racks by size. No more weeding through a bunch of XXL tops and dresses I wish would fit. Just a straight beeline to my section. If all the other thrift stores would figure this out I could be a speed thrift shopper to the max.
On a different note, how great is that spiked friendship ring? My Little Fish Eye makes great friendship accessories, much of them studded. I am excited to wear the bracelet she sent as well. Spikes4life. Spikes4evr.

Awesome outfit and admire your determination for only thrifted clothing. I don't actively try to only buy thrift but it's about 95% of my wardrobe regardless.
ReplyDeleteLove this outfit, and love Yuck too. And now I'm off to listen to a load of lectures... Much better than studying for my actual class tomorrow? Heh.
ReplyDeleteIt makes me so happy to see people being sustainable through used clothes! I fully support your goal, and hope that you do stick to it for another month or so. My clothing ethos is to only buy new clothes if they are truly high quality. Why purchase something that'll only last a couple wears? beautiful outfit and wonderful goal! go team! and that dog is totally adorable.
ReplyDeleteI love so much about this outfit I can't even explain it. :D Your jewelry collection is definitely my all time favorite! <3

I totally agree about stating a goal before it's been accomplished, I read so many blogs where the writer vows to change something and it's never mentioned again. Good on you for only buying second-hand, it's been over three years since I bought clothes from a shop. There's so much chucked out these days even something trendy a month ago ends up in a thrift shop when the previous owner bores of it.
ReplyDeleteYou look fabulous, as always, effortlessly pulled together and hot as hell. x
love your style so much <3
ReplyDeletei love your bag! you look great!
ReplyDeleteThis is a really interesting point about how accomplishment has already been rewarded before we even start when we share our goals with others, you would think the praise would spur you on. However good luck with your thrifting!
